Mrs. Chappell's new toy

This thing is awesome for sorting papers! Students are assigned a number and place their papers in the file accordingly. It is so easy to just pull the papers out in one sorted stack.
I purchased this from Amazon.com.  You can buy yours (my teacher friends), here!

Our Classroom Tour

Mission Control~ This is where the smart-board magic happens!  The Smart Board is one of the greatest inventions.....ever!
Our Classroom Rules and Clip Chart.....Hey kids, what's rule number one????
The reading area and comfy chair view from the back of the room.
One of our "offices".  Isn't that a nice neat area?  We store each table's supplies on these shelves and our "office manager" is responsible for keeping it neat and organized.
The back computer table and our "Alabama" bulletin board.  We are loving learning about Alabama History!
Mrs. Chappell's desk area, complete with pioneer dress, brag wall, and diet coke.
Front computer table with Eric Carle crate seats.
Our Math Word Wall.
Mrs. Chappell L O V E S boardwork.  <3
Front view of the reading area and our "Perfect Attendance" bulletin board.
Where's Freddy by the way?  He's not in Mrs. Chappell's room anymore!  We hope he returns soon.

Our flower garden at Sycamore

This is a picture of Sycamore's flower garden that we planted during summer camp. In our garden, there are tomatoes, bell peppers, french marigolds, zinnia, and daisies.  We have even been able to pick tomatoes and bell peppers from our garden.  Recently, we noticed that many butterflies and bees had been visiting our brighly colored flowers.  We thought this was a great sign of nature.

Memories of Freddy.......:-(

Where's Freddy?

Freddy!  We miss you!  We really, really, really want you back!  Where have you been, Freddy?  You look so cute sitting in Mrs. Chappell's chair.  To be honest, we think that chair was made for you.  To make it even better, you're sitting in a pond.  Did you notice, Freddy?  See the rug, Freddy?  When are you coming back?  We love you.  You belong here.  :-(  We think this is your natural habitat.  You have everything you need here.  You have friends.  You have shelter.  We will keep you warm or cool, whichever you desire.  Come back Freddy!

What I do with my weekend...Fossils!

Hey kids!  I know you all have enjoyed a relaxing long weekend.  I know I have!  This weekend, I have been thinking about our upcoming science and social studies objectives.  We're going to be learning about some really interesting things.  I think my favorite part about coming to 4th grade has been science and social studies.

In science, we are still learning about ecosystems.  We're taking it a step further though to find out what makes ecosystems balanced, how ecosystems meet the needs of the organisms that live there and what things can affect the balance of an ecosystem.  I'm also super excited that we'll be learning more about fossils!  I know that a lot of you are interested in them as well.  I came across this website this afternoon about a group of paleontologists from our state.  They went on an expedition in Greene county looking for fossils.  You can read more about it here: Greene County Alabama: Fossils  This really makes me want to take a fossil-finding field trip.

In Alabama History, we will be learning more about Native American tribes from Alabama and how they interacted with European explorers like Hernando De Soto and Alonzo Alvarez de Pineda.  I know that all of you have some knowledge of DeSoto because of the caverns here close to our school.  However, I bet many of you will be surprised to learn that DeSoto wasn't nearly as "nice" as those picture make him out to be!
